Dessers Ends Three-month Goal Drought

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers scored his third Serie goal of the campaign for Cremonese on Saturday.

However it wasn’t enough to earn the strugglers a point as Monza went back home with all three points after a thrilling 2-3 victory.

Monza were in complete control for an hour, but almost fumbled the points with Dessers leading a late Cremonese fight back.

Former Napoli forward Andrea Petagna laid a pass for Patrick Ciurria to tap in from close range for Monza’s first goal of the game.

It became 2-0 few minutes later when Gianluca Caprari scored from the penalty spot after Monza were awarded a penalty following the intervention from VAR.

Cyriel Dessers almost pulled one back for the hosts few minutes later when he got into a dangerous position but his shot went inches wide.

The former Genk forward then blasted another attempt well over from acute angle.

Monza goalkeeper Di Gregorio was tested again by Dessers who saw his header saved, before Monza scored a third in the counter. Caprari and Petagna again combining.

Cremonese finally got on the mark late on in the game with Daniel Ciofani heading home a Valeri’s cross.

It wasn’t over, as a long Valeri cross-field ball went over Ciofani who fed Dessers, and the Nigerian drilled it back across the face of goal into the far bottom corner for 3-2.

Meanwhile Dessers compatriot David Okereke also saw action for Cremonese.
