Cyriel Dessers continued his impressive run of form for Feyenoord as he netted the winner in their UEFA Conference League game against Union Berlin.
After scoring in last weekend’s league game against Sparta Rotterdam, Dessers went into the tie against Union Berlin with full confidence and he made the difference at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Thursday.
Feyenoord took the lead on the 15th minute when Luis Sinisterra smashed the ball into the back of the net.
Union Berlin who had another Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi on the pitch found their way into the tie and restored parity through Christopher Trimmel four minutes before half-time.
Awoniyi struggled to make an impact in the game and was taken off by Coach Urs Fischer in the 59th minute.
The substitution didn’t work as planned and Union Berlin continued to labour in the attack on a day they needed to win.
With Union Berlin struggling, Feyenoord’s coach decided to introduce Cyriel Dessers for Bryan Lissenn on the 64th minutes and he made instant impact by netting the winner just eight minutes after coming on.
The victory increased Feyenoord’s points tally to 10 from 4 matches, while Union Berlin remain rooted at the bottom of the table with just 3 points.
