Did Neymar feign it? Fearless Aribo… Things we noticed in the Brazil vs Nigeria friendly

Nigeria was rewarded for a spirited performance against 2019 Copa America champions Brazil in Sunday’s international friendly in Singapore.

The young Super Eagles showed verve, one that certainly would have impressed their more glamorous opponents. But it is the Brazilians who will feel let down by their own profligacy and casualness on the pitch.

Sunday’s match presented a several talking points and here’s the top five.

FEARLESS JOE ARIBO –

In only his second game for Nigeria, Joe Aribo marched out like he’s been around for a while, and showed the heart reminiscence of the 1994 Eagles.

He scored a poacher’s goal to give Nigeria the lead and was omnipresent for 90+4 minutes.

FRANCIS UZOHO LOOKED GOOD UNTIL THE INJURY

The goalkeeper was exciting to watch in goal. His wit and level of concentration in the game was inspiring. Unfortunately, his time in spotlight was cut short by a nasty injury. He landed awkwardly, twisted his lower leg and good night.

MADUKA OKOYE’S DEBUT

The sad episode narrated above opened the door to another’s first moment in the Nigerian jersey. Maduka Okoye’s long awaited debut came and he had fans swooning over his looks, the 20 year-old.

PAUL ONUACHU’S CROSS

Since his spectacular goalscoring debut against Egypt, Paul Onachu has struggled to impress, even more so against Brazil.

He was one of the most criticized of the Eagles on Sunday, coming off the bench to replace Victor Osimhen who had kept the Brazilians busy.

NEYMAR’S INJURY

Brazil’s poster boy Neymar was named in the starting XI and fans were eager to catch a glimpse of the star on the pitch, unfortunately, he didn’t last long.

The forward picked up a hamstring injury, just 12 minutes in. But conspiracy theorist are suggesting the 27 year-old feigned it.
