Former national team assistant coach Alphonsus Dike has stated that he wasn’t surprised by the omission of 2019 AFCON top scorer Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo from the list of Africa’s best 11 for the year 2019 under review stressing that the Nigerian apart from been top scorer at the AFCON had nothing else so strong to reckon with.

Dike speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said credit to Ighalo for emerging as the AFCON top scorer but didn’t out perform or show any other special display of artistry as a striker beyond the AFCON where he even picked up late in the competition.
“For Ighalo you know he picked up lately and we were even surprised that he picked that mark of being the highest goal scorer but in terms of play let’s be very objective about it, he wasn’t really exciting as a striker.
“Most people will probably attributes it to luck but the fact remained that he had earned it and sin e he had earned it, it should be given to him as the top goal scorer but in terms of play and display of artistry as a striker in the year let us tell ourselves the hard truth about it.”
