Rafael Nadal had no answer to a masterclass showing from Novak Djokovic as the world no.1 won the Australian Open final in straight sets.

Djokovic came out all guns blazing and broke Nadal in the Spaniard’s first service game to race ahead 4-1 in the opening set, before holding firm to seize the early advantage in the contest at Rod Laver Arena.

Another break in the third all but ended Nadal’s fight and Djokovic saw out a seventh championship triumph 6-3 6-2 6-3 in Melbourne.

Djokovic had won all six previous finals he has contested at Melbourne Park, including the five-hour, 53-minute classic against Nadal in 2012.
