D’Tigress! Nigeria in Top 20 Best Basketball Nations

Nigeria is the biggest mover in the latest FIBA Women World Ranking; climbing 15 places to 19th spot after the spectacular performance of D’Tigress at the FIBA Women’s World 2018.

At just concluded Women’s World Cup, Nigeria reached the quarter-final; becoming the first African team to win more than 1 game in a single World Cup tournament and also advancing beyond the first round of the competition.

 

Before the tournament, D’Tigress ranked 34th now emerged as the 2nd best team in Africa, replacing Angola.

 

Head Coach, Hughley Otis Jr. guided the team to a record of 3-4; including straight wins over Turkey, Argentina and Greece, and finished 8th overall.

 

Eventual winner, Team USA, retain the top spot, while Spain, Australia and France occupy the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively.

 

Senegal who lost their quarter final playoff to Spain retained their 17th spot on the global ranking while Angola dropped 2 places to 20.

 

Mozambique and Mali dropped to 27th and 40th respectively.
