Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa will be heading back home from Russia with Lionel Messi’s Matchday shirt, after failing to taste any World Cup action.

Ezenwa received Lionel Messi’s shirt after the Eagles painful loss to the South Americans in Saint Petersburg on Tuesday Night.

Messi scored a stunning goal against Nigeria to break the deadlock – and open his account for the tournament – before Marcos Rojo bagged a late winner to book their spot in the last-16 of the World Cup.

At the full-time whistle, there was a complete contrast of emotions. As the Argentina stars celebrated wildly on the pitch the Nigeria players laid still on the floor.

Once the Eagles’ commiserations were over, Ezenwa made his move, blocking Messi in the tunnel to ask for his shirt.

Ikechukwu Ezenwa began his football career with defunct Ocean Boys F.C in 2005 before he moved to Heartland F.C. in July 2008 after winning the Nigerian League title with the Ogara Boys.

He moved to Ifeanyi Ubah in 2016 before his Contract ended in 2017 and later completed a move to Enyimba International F.C of Aba.

He got the call-up to the Nigeria Super Eagles in 2015 under the authority ex-Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh, and he later became Nigerian number one when Carl Ikeme was diagnosed with leukemia.

The 29-year-old, who has 24 caps to his name and plays his football for Enyimba International back in Nigeria.
