Ekong helps Watford move up to third in championship

Williams Troost-Ekong played saw action for 90 minutes as Watford defeated Stoke City 2 – 1 in the English Championship game on Friday.

The Nigerian international was at his best all through the match and helped Watford maintained their slim advantage at the Bet 365 stadium.

Goals from Troy Deeney and Ismaila Sarr helped the Hornets up to third in the table, level on points with Swansea City.

After the goalless first half, Troy Deeney scored the opener from the penalty spot in the 64th minutes, after goalkeeper Joe Bursik brought down Joao Pedro.

Deeney, however, turned provider for the second goal four minutes later, the Hornets captain played a pass Senegalese forward Ismaila Sarr who made no mistake.

Substitute Steven Fletcher pulled one back (83), but the Potters couldn’t force an equalizer in a nervy final few minutes, allowing Ekong and his teammates to pick up just their third away win of the season.

Meanwhile, former Nigerian captain Mikel featured for the entire duration for Stoke City who has now gone 10 league games without a win since December 19.
