Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong returned to club duty on Friday after helping Nigeria qualify for the 2022 African Cup of Nations.
The Nigerian vice-captain was on parade for Watford in the English championship game with Sheffield Wednesday at the Vicarage Road on Friday.
Ekong was on from the start to finish as the Hornets boosted hope of promotion back to the premier league with a 1-0 victory over the visitors.
Watford was far from their scoring best, but Tom Lee’s own goal in the 7th minute of the encounter was enough to hand them all the three points.
Ekong’s compatriot, Isaac Success also started the game for the Xisco Munos’s side and lasted for 61 minutes, before being replaced by Andy Gray.
It was Success’s second start for the club after returning from an injury that kept him out of action for almost 12 months.
