Emery exalts Chukwueze after historic performance against Bayern

Villarreal manager Unai Emery is proud of Samuel Chukwueze and his teammates following their latest achievement in the Champions League.

Villarreal knocked out six-time Champions Bayern Munich to advance to the semi-final of the prestigious UEFA Champions League.

Villarreal traveled to Allianz Arena with a 1-0 first-leg win, but it became all square when Robert Lewandowski scored for the Bavarians in the 52nd minute.

However, Chukwueze who came on from the bench unleashed the sucker punch on Bayern when he scored in the 88th minute with only his second touch of the game.

Chukwueze’s goal was only his sixth of the season in all competitions for Villarreal and his first of 2022.

“I’m happy for him (Chukwueze) and everyone, The [round of 16] game against Juventus gave us a lot of confidence and here it was another huge game, but the first leg already said a lot about us. We were perfect in defense.” He said after the game.

Villarreal are through to the Champions League semi-finals for only the second time – they lost 1-0 on aggregate against Arsenal in 2005/06.
