Enyeama wants Nigerians to lower expectations from current goalkeepers

Former Nigerian international Vincent Enyeama has urged Nigerians to stop looking out for his heroics in the duo of Francis Uzoho and Maduka Okoye.

Vincent Enyeama made this call after the Eagles’ world cup exit in an interview on Channels Television.

The former netminder called for more support for Nigerian goalkeepers while dissuading fans from having lofty expectations or comparing them with his heroics while donning the Eagles’ jersey.

“Luckily for me, I didn’t have anyone to be compared with. I stood out among my peers. I was the hero most times for the country, thanks to God, thanks to His grace. Let’s just support these goalkeepers. Imagine, Akpeyi walk up to the goalpost and he’s expected to keep a clean sheet because Vincent Enyeama did something like that against Argentina”

“When Akpeyi, Uzoho, or Okoye, walks into the goalpost, they should know they won’t see them and not Vincent in between the sticks. This expectation has posed a big problem for Nigerian goalies. Everybody is comparing them with Vincent Enyeama. I can understand, Nigeria wants the best, unfortunately, there’s no more Vincent Enyeama in the team, so we should support whosoever is in goal, let’s encourage these guys. This kind of comparison gives me a headache.
