Everton boss calls on Iwobi and others to show character against Watford

Everton boss Marco Silva has called on Alex Iwobi and other players to forget about their painful defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion in Saturday’s EPL game and focus on their upcoming Carabao Cup clash with struggling Watford.

Everton were on course for their first away win of the season, until the VAR awarded a debatable penalty for the hosts to equalised, before Captain Lucas Digne scored a last gasp own goal as Brighton held on for their third consecutive win in the league.

Silva said the manner of the defeat 3-2 defeat left the players’ confident shattered, but he has call on them to show character and give a perfect response when Watford visit Goodison Park for the fourth-round tie on Tuesday evening.

“The next game is a different competition and if we have a goal, an ambition to go until the end, to the final, we have to win,” said Silva, speaking after being beaten at the Amex Stadium.

“It is our obligation (to lift the players), we have to. Of course, the mood is really low. It is difficult for a football team when we felt we did a big effort, we did everything that we should do.

“For them (the players), it is really difficult to understand why it happened against us but you have to respect the decision, you have to keep going.” He said.
