Ex Man United and England star Owen Hargreaves was marveled by Calvin Bassey’s influence in Rangers’ Europa League final match against Frankfurt on Wednesday night.
Speaking in his role as an analyst on BT Sports during the Europa League final, Hargreaves heaped praises on he Nigerian defender.
“Calvin Bassey, my word, what a performance,” he said on BT Sport. “That was astonishing, the energy and effort.”
“Everything about his game was fantastic. Anyone watching that will be thinking: ‘That’s the kind of player I want in my team.”
Bassey became a regular player for Rangers this season after Borna Barisic got injured.
The 22-year-old later found himself shunted infield after the arrival of Giovanni van Bronckhorst and has made the position his own.
He kept Filip Helander out of the team, when he briefly returned from injury, and has left Leon Balogun stuck on the bench.
The youngster is expected to be in action for Rangers in the Scottish Cup final this weekend.
