Falcons get N2.2m for winning 9th AWCON

Nigeria’s Super Falcons players are N2.2m richer after Capitalists Aliko Dangote and Abdul Samad redeemed their combine N75m promises made to the team after they successfully won the 11th African Women’s Cup of Nations in Ghana last month.

The Super Falcons retained the title they won in Cameroon back in 2016 with hard fought victory over South Africa in Ghana and book a place in France for the Women’s World Cup in the process.

However the historical feat didn’t go unnoticed as well meaning Nigerians including Chairman of Dangote group Aliko Dangote and BUA Group CEO, Abdul Samad pledged to reward the team.

The team was presented with the cheque of N50 million from Dangote Group and N25m from BUA Group at the dinner organised by the Nigeria Football Federation for its partners.

Brila.net gathered that the players received thethe money before the Christmas Holidays, with each player pocketed N2.2m.

A source told brila.net’s Seyi Alao that a total of N46.2m was shared among the 21 players not including the officials that were in Ghana for the tournament.

“Each player got N1.5m from Dangote and N700,000 from BUA which came to N2.2m,” a source said.

The NFF had paid the team 10,000 USD per player pledge for clinching their 9th AWCON title.

Nigeria will take on Korea Republic, Norway and hosts Nation France in Group A of the Women’s world cup which begins in June.
