Enyimba coach Fatai Osho said his side got punished for their mistakes after going down 3 – 0 to El Merreikh in the first-leg CAF Champions League qualifying round tie in Omdurman.

El Merreikh Forward Saif Terry scored a hat-trick as the hosts eased to a comfortable win and an advantage heading into the second-leg.

The result leaves the two-time winners with a mountain to climb in the return leg in Aba, if they are to progress to the next phase of the competition.

In his reaction to the defeat, Osho said his side were magnificent through out the game, but were punished for the mistakes his side made.

Osho also argued that his side defended poorly and should have done much better.

“It is really a painful one. Every mistake on our part they got it punished and that was very good on their side. In terms of play we did very well but we needed to be a bit tidy at the back.” He said.

The second-leg is slated for Aba Township stadium in January 5th 2021.
