Nigeria’s best Karatekas will fly the Country’s flag the 2018 World Championship in Madrid, with the mission to elevate Nigeria on the global stage.
National champion Ujunwa Nwankwo (-68kg), National team captain, Efezino Akpotu (-75kg) and Prince Ocholi Ameh (+84kg) are the three athletes selected to compete and reach the a podium place.
General Secretary of the Karate Federation of Nigeria, Ahmed Abdullahi assured the three were picked based on form and ranking and believes the contingent will do Nigeria proud, per Dare Kuti [aclsports.com].
“We believe with the support of all and with the right motivation, our athletes will do the nation proud.
“In 1996, Nigeria fielded one athlete, Segun Akinola at the World Championship in South Africa; in 2009, we also took one athlete, Maxwell Nwaboze to the World Championship in Japan. I am happy the country is fielding three athletes this time around,” Abdullahi quipped.
The championship is scheduled to run between 3rd-11th November, 2018 in Madrid, Spain.
