FIFA has slammed a 5-year ban on Confederation of African Football (Caf) president Ahmad for breaching various codes of ethics.
The World Football Governimg Body announced the decision on Monday, November 23rd, following the meeting of the executive committee.
The 60-year-old administrator from Madagascar was found guilty offenses related to wrong offering and accepting of gifts, also abuse of position and misappropriation of funds.
“The investigation into Mr Ahmad’s conduct – from 2017 to 2019 concerned various Caf-related governance issues, including the organisation and financing of ah Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca, his involvement in Caf’s dealing with the sports equipment company Tactical Steel and other activities,” a Fifa statement read.
The ban is a major blow to the 60 year old’s CAF hope of running for the Confederation of African Football presidency later next year.
Ahmad announced his intention to go for a second term in office when Caf elections take place next March.
The Malagasy ended the reign of Issa Hayatou to become the president of CAF back in 2017 and he’s also Vice president of FIFA.
