Flying Antelopes stroll past Defence Force in Ethiopia

Rangers International of Enugu qualified for the next phase of the CAF Confederations Cup emphatically as they strolled past Defence Force of Ethiopia 1-3 in Addis Ababa on Wednesday.

Rangers had won the first leg in Nigeria weeks back 2-0, thanks to two decisive second-half penalties from Godwin Aguda which left the Ethiopians with a mountain to climb in the second leg in front of their home crowd.

The home side got an important start as they went ahead in the opening minute of the game through Minyelu Wendimu’s penalty after sloppy defending from the Nigerians.

However two goals in nine minutes from the Nigerian Aiteo Cup Champions turned the tie around, Bright Silas scored in four minutes after the half-hour mark before Godwin Aguda added the second five minutes late from the penalty spot.

Kelvin Itoya completed the rout for Gbenga Ogunbote’s side with twelve minutes remaining on the clock to make 1-5 to the Flying Antelopes on aggregate.

Rangers have now been drawn against Algerian side USM Bel Abbes in the next round, with the first leg away in Algeria between 14-16 December before returned between 21-23 December in Enugu.
