Flying Eagles captain, Daniel Bameyi was named Man of the Match following a stellar performance in Nigeria’s goalless draw with Morocco at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

The Group B encounter, which ended 0-0, saw Bameyi lead from the back with a calm and commanding display.

Aliyu Zubairu’s side came into the match on the back of a win over Tunisia, where Auwal Ibrahim was named Man of the Match.

However, against Morocco it was Bameyi who stole the spotlight with his leadership and defensive intelligence.

One of the standout moments came in the first half when Bameyi made a crucial interception to deny Morocco a clear scoring opportunity.

The Flying Eagles captain then made several key interceptions and was a dominant presence.

Head coach Aliyu Zubairu made a few changes to the starting XI, staying true to his pre-match comments about squad rotation.

Caleb Ochedikwu and Kparobo Arierhi were replaced by Israel Ayuma and Precious Benjamin in attack, as Nigeria looked to freshen things up in the final third.

Despite the tactical tweaks, the Flying Eagles struggled to carve out clear chances. They managed three shots on target but lacked the creativity and final pass needed to break down a well-drilled Moroccan side.

Much of their threat came from counterattacks and crosses from wide areas, highlighting a need for more fluid midfield play.

The result keeps Nigeria second in Group B with four points level with leaders Morocco, who top the group on goal difference.

The Flying Eagles now turn their focus to a crucial final group game against Kenya, scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, as they aim to seal a spot in the knockout stages.

Bameyi’s standout display, however, remains a major positive and underlines his growing influence in the heart of Nigeria’s defence.
