Gabon International Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored two crucial goals to help Arsenal secure a 16th Community Shield as the Gunners beat Liverpool 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 result in regulation time.

Aubameyang gave Mikel Arteta’s men the lead from a Bukayo Saka assist, the Arsenal captain beating Alisson Becker with a fine curler from outside the box in the 12th minute.

The Gunners missed several chances to extend their lead in the first half and went into the break a goal up.

Egypt’s Mohamed Elneny played all 90 minutes for Arsenal, while Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah also featured for the entire duration.

Guinea’s Naby Keita was introduced in the second half and 14 minutes later Liverpool were level through a Takumi Minamoto goal.

After regulation time the game went straight to penalties. English youngster Rhian Brewster missed his kick, striking it against the cross bar. Aubameyang stepped forward with a chance to win it and duly tucked it away.

It’s the second silverware for Arsenal Manager Arteta, who also won the 2019-20 FA Cup in his first season in charge.
