Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen saw his scoring streak come to an end on Saturday as Galatasaray secured a hard-fought 2-0 win over Trabzonspor at Papara Park in the Turkish Super Lig.

Osimhen, who had scored in five of Galatasaray’s previous six matches, only missing out against Bodrum in April, was kept quiet by the Trabzonspor defence.

Despite his tireless efforts and constant movement, the Nigerian forward could not find the breakthrough that has defined his loan spell in Turkey.

Galatasaray took control of the match with goals from Abdulkerim Bardakcı and Álvaro Morata, ensuring a vital away win for Okan Buruk’s side.

The victory extended their unbeaten run to five matches and solidified their grip on top spot in the league with 86 points, eight clear of fierce rivals Fenerbahçe.

Osimhen registered four shots (two on target, two off) and played the full 90 minutes, but the breakthrough eluded him.

Still, the 26-year-old remains in sensational form overall, having bagged 33 goals and provided six assists in 38 appearances across all competitions this season.

His loan spell with Galatasaray, which began amid high expectations, is turning out to be one of the most productive stretches of his career.

If the Turkish giants seal the league title, it will mark Osimhen’s second career league triumph, following his historic Serie A win with Napoli in the 2022/2023 season.

Before then, Galatasaray will meet Trabzonspor again on Wednesday in the Turkish Cup final, a chance for Osimhen to help the team complete a domestic double.

A win would further underline his impact during his short but explosive stint in Istanbul.

Osimhen has drawn interest from major European clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea, Juventus, and Liverpool.

His performances in Turkey continue to fuel speculation over a big-money move once his loan ends.
