Gasperini reveals why he stopped Lookman from penalty duties

Atalanta boss Piero Gasperini has explained why he stopped Ademola Lookman from taking a penalty against Lecce on Sunday.

After going 1-0, Atalanta were awarded a penalty after Lecce defender handed the ball in the penal box.

Lookman tried to take the penalty from the hands of Koopmeiners before the intervention of Gasperini from the sideline.

Koopmeiners, a Dutch international however missed the penalty.

“I asked Koopmeiners to take it and then he missed, but he’s the first in the line, The coach said.

Lookman shrugged off the disappointment and went on to score Atalanta’s second of the game.

Gasperini was full of praises for the Nigerian international whom he signed from RB Leipzig during last transfer window.

Lookman has scored five goals and always gave a strong contribution to the team.

He has technique, pace, is a player any coach would be happy with. We realised pretty quickly what he was capable of, he was convincing from the start.” He concluded.
