Gateway Utd mourns NNL boss Chidi Ofo Okenwa

The management of Gateway United has expressed its condolences to Nigerian football fraternity over the sudden death of a member of the executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation Honourable Chidi Ofo Okenwa which occurred on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020.


The Chairman, Nigeria National League, NNL who also doubled as the Chairman, Enugu State Football Association had before his demise reportedly diagnosed with leukemia.



He was reported to have slumped on Tuesday morning and was confirmed dead in a private hospital in Enugu.



In a statement by the acting General Manager of the Ogun State-owned club, Niyi Soleye, his death is described as a big loss to Nigeria’s football family.


“We commiserate with Nigeria Football Federation, Enugu State, and football family in Nigeria, over the passing of Chidi Ofo Okenwa.



He was a great football administrator who had a keen interest in the development of the round leather game in the nation, and of course, did contribute immensely to that course”


“Chidi will be greatly missed by all. A gentleman to the core. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family. May his soul rest in peace” He concluded.


The remains of the late Chidi Ofo Okenwa have been deposited in a mortuary in the city of Enugu.
