Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr turned 64 today – 28th of June – and his biggest birthday gift, yet, will be the Super Eagles edging out Cameroon in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers later this year.
Rohr took the Nigeria job last year and had been on a cruise until earlier this month before South Africa knocked the wind from his sails in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.
It was Rohr’s first loss as Coach of the three-time African Champions after a run of 4 wins and a draw.
Also, the Franco-German has enjoyed a decent managerial career.
He started his career as a coach at French club side, Bordeaux where he spent almost six years and was the one who famously guided the club to the UEFA Cup final against Bayern Munich where they lost over the two legs.
Rohr has worked in Africa for the past seven years previously in charge of the likes of Gabon and Niger before his appointment by the Nigerian FA in September 2016.
He also managed Tunisian side, E’toile Sportive du Sahel from 2008 to 2009, but was sacked by the club after failing to qualify for the CAF Champions League group stage.
The Nigeria Football Federation tweeted a birthday message to the gaffer, who wouldn’t mind defender, Leon Balogun as his birthday buddy.
The FA’s tweet reads: “Happy birthday to @NGSuperEagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr and defender @LeonBalogun. 🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂”
