Greedy Teammates denied Awoniyi Goal against Chelsea — Charlie Adam

Former Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam, blasted Brennan Johnson for denying Taiwo Awoniyi a goal during Nottingham Forest’s match against Chelsea on Sunday.

Awoniyi would capped a perfect display against Graham Potter’s side if Brennan Johnson had squared a pass for him for an easy tap in.

Morgan Gibbs-White released Johnson down the right flank and he raced towards goal, with Awoniyi unmarked, but he decided to go alone and Kepa made an easy save from his effort.

That has been the case throughout the season for Forest – they have only scored 12 goals in 17 league games – they lacked cutting edge and ability to make right decisions in the final third.

Adam in commentary box for BBC Radio 5 Live for the game, berated Johnson for not setting up Awoniyi.

“That’s exactly what Nottingham Forest wanted, for Johnson to be one on one with Azpilicueta.

“He went for the shot and tries to be greedy when he could have squared it to Awoniyi and Kepa makes an easy save,” Adam said in his analysis.

Awoniyi still had a good game and was replaced in the 88th minute by Neco Williams.

His contributions were enough to earn him the man of the match award.
