Guinea Bissau Braima Dabo’s Sportsmanship in Doha warm hearts World Over

Sports is about competing and at the highest stage winning is crucial, but when an elite athlete puts that to the side for sportsmanship and esprit de corps, nothing is better and Guinea Bissau’s Braima Suncar Dabo showed just that at the World Athletics Championships in Doha on Friday.

Dabo won hearts all over the world for his sportsmanship, as he helped a competitor, Aruba athlete Jonathan Busby for over 120m across the finish line in the men’s 5,000m qualifiers.

Once again the notorious heat in Dubai was the focal point, even inside the air-conditioned Khalifa International Stadium, conditions for distance running were far from ideal, and neither man came into Friday’s 5,000m heat with an IAAF-ratified mark to their name over the distance.

Both Athletes are the only men competing in Qatar from their respective countries, with each federation allowed to send one athlete to the championships, regardless of any qualifying standard.
