Heracles Almelo sporting director has confirmed turning down a bid from Spanish club Celta Vigo for forward Cyriel Dessers in January.
Dessers, 25, has been impressive for Heracles since joining them from FC Utrecht in the summer of 2019.
In the recently-canceled Eredivisie season, he netted 15 goals to emerge the league’s joint-top scorer along with Feyenoord Steven Berghuis.
However, Heracles director Rob Touissant has revealed that they got an offer that failed to meet the club’s valuation for the striker from Celta.
“In that period, we needed him desperately and the offer was not attractive enough.”
“Without Dessers, our continuity might have been jeopardised. With today’s science, everyone makes different choices, but that is afterwards,”
Dessers, who was born to a Belgian father and Nigerian mother, is in line to make his Super Eagles debut in a 2021 AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone when international football resumes.
