He’s going home as a hero — Okocha praises Cameroon shot-stoper Epassy

Former Super Eagles captain Austin Okocha believes Devis Epassy is one of the revelations from the World Cup in Qatar, following his great performance against Brazil.

Epassy came into the World Cup as number two, but the suspension of Andre Onana means, he ended up playing 180 minutes of football and recorded a clean sheet against record world cup winners Brazil on Friday.

The shot stopper was instrumental as Cameroon became the first African side to beat Brazil at the World Cup, saving from Gabriel Martinelli and Guimareas.

Cameroon won the game 1-0, but it wasn’t enough to guarantee them a place in the knock out phase of the tournament.

Okocha praised Epassy for holding his own on against the Brazilians on the biggest stage.

“He’s going home as a hero, made a very good fantastic save here. It was all about his positioning, he made it look easy because he was in the right position and they’ve managed to follow up as well and pushed that one over.”

“It shows how we build teams up and how we build players up. What a game to make your debut against a tough opposition,” Okocha added.

Epassy made his international debut in a friendly against Nigeria in June 2021.
