HFN PLOTS TO TAKE THE SPORT TO GRASSROOTS

President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria Samuel Ocheo has revealed that there are deliberate strategies to popularise the sport.

The handball supremo in a conversation with Brila.net noted that they hope to have people in the grassroots familiarise themselves with the sport. As such, Ocheo further revealed that it informed the decision to start the U8 Handball games.
“We are doing our best to popularise the game by ensuring it is done the right way at the very grassroots. It is why we have now opened our under 8 games.”
Another strategy which Ocheo said the Federation has started to implement is an easy entry into other handball teams like the U12, U15, U19 and U21 categories. It used to be open to just states.
“We have a lot of grassroots competitions and the  U12, U15, U19 and U21 categories are now no longer open to just states but also to academies, local government and any individual. The more we keep seeing games played at the grassroots the more we popularise it.”
The U19 and U21 team just came back from Kosovo where they finished 2nd and 5th respectively from the International Handball Federation Challenge.
