Nigeria Football Federation Executive committee member and Chairman of the Nationwide League Alkali Mohammed has stated that there is a hierarchy in the governance structure of league football in Nigeria and that the promotion and relegation of teams are tied to the availability of spots in the topflight.
Alkali speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said the leagues are intertwined with relationship existing but that the lower tier leagues are still keyed into whatever decision is taken by the top tier NPFL who will open slot for NNL teams to get promoted and teams to be dropped from the NPFL to the NNL and also trickles down to the different tiers of Nationwide leagues.
“Every league is keyed to the Premier league of the country if the Premier league cannot relegate and promote, the NNL definitely cannot accommodate us (Nationwide League) cannot send us relegation teams and we cannot send them promotion team.
We are keyed to the elite league because it is the top peak of the leagues in the country, so anywhere you are you know that the Premier League is superior to every league in the country and if the door of the Premier league is closed, how will you enter? You enter through the window?”
