Hoffenheim defender Kevin Akpoguma dumps Germany for Nigeria

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has confirmed that Kevin Akpoguma has committed his international future to Nigeria.

Born to a German mother and a Nigerian father, Kevin Akpoguma has represented Germany at the youth level, playing for the U16, U17, U18, U19, U20, and U21 teams.

He was the captain of the German U-20 National, helping the team reach the quarterfinals of the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

He stated in the past that he was open to playing to Nigeria, and Pinnick has now confirmed player interest in switching allegiance to Nigeria on Wednesday.

Pinnick disclosed that the Federation has received a written letter from the 1899 Hoffenheim defender on his decision to pledge allegiance to Nigeria.

“Already, Kelvin Agboguma and one other have already written to commit their future to Nigeria. They know that Nigeria is a big country to launch anybody higher than they imagine,” he told the sun.

Kevin Akpoguma started 12 league games for 6th-placed Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga last season.
