How Junior Lokosa won his first CAF Champions League title in and Bizarre Circumstances

Junior Lokosa won the CAF Champions League in his first season with Esperance de Tunis, but it came in the most bizarre circumstances after the game was abruptly ended following a protest by Wydad Casablanca.

Lokosa, who joined the Tunisian champions from Kano Pillars in January 2019, was named as a substitute for Friday’s game at the Stade Olympique de Radès, although he played over 60 minutes in the first-leg.

 

Esperance had the advantage going into the game after a 1-1 first-leg result in Rabat, the were on the front foot in Radès after 41 minutes through Youcef Belaïli.

 

However, just after the hour mark Wydad scored what they thought was the leveler, but the goal scorer Walid El Karti was ruled off side by the far assistant.

 

The match was interrupted for over an hour after Wydad abandoned play.

 

After several consultations, with the game halted for well over over an hour and the refusal of Wydad to resume play, Referee Papa Bakary Gassama was prompted to end the game and Esperance were awarded the win.

 

Declared winner,  Dawla Tarajia as they cruised to their fourth title, winning back to back and joining the exclusive group with the likes of Al Ahly, TP Mazembe, Enyimba FC.
