Simeon Nwankwo put in a fine display on his international debut as the arrow head attacker against DR Congo, but, the only thing lacking in his first minutes for Nigeria was a goal and the forward says he can’t to get one.
The Italy-based striker caught the eyes of Super Eagles coaches last season where he played for Crotone. He scored 7 goals in 23 league appearances for the club and hopes to do even more for Nigeria.
Simy could get another chance to prove he can be relied on for goals in the Eagles, when Nigeria come up against Czech Republic in a pre-World Cup warm-up game on Wednesday.
In a telephone interview with Anthony Bekederemo on Brila FM, Simy, who also revealed he has not planned any goal celebration, harped on the need to put the team’s collective target above his individual ambitions.
‘I can’t wait for my first international goal. I don’t have any trademark celebrations so I will celebrate as the mood requires. But, importantly, I’m more obsessed with the team’s objective than my personal goals.’
