I want to make name with Nigeria – Ike Ugbo

Genk’s forward Ike Ugbo has revealed the reason behind his decision to switch allegiance to Nigeria from England.

Ugbo represented England at the Youth level, but later announced that he is open to representing Nigeria at the senior international level and the change of documentation is ongoing.

In a chat with Dutch news agency Denbighshire Freepress, the striker said, chances of playing at the World Cup is one of the reasons, and added that his father also played a major in the decision.

He said: “I know I could wait, but I felt, when there are big competitions coming up, I want to make my name.

“Who knows, I could end up at the World Cup next year.

“Dad always wanted me to play for Nigeria because that’s where he was born and brought up. That’s one thing he would love.” He said.

Ugbo scored seven goals for England in 17 combined matches for England’s U17 and U20.
