Captain Onome Ebi has hit out at some section of media who said that the Super Falcons team are getting old and suggested that coach Thomas Dennerby should look into the direction of younger players.
The reigning AWCON champions are one of the oldest squad in the competition with the likes of Onome Ebi, Rita Chikwelu who are above 30 still key members of the team, and some questioned coach Thomas Dennerby for sticking with the old guards and not introducing enough young players into the team.
While speaking ahead of the semi-final clash with the indomitable Lioness of Cameroon, Ebi who’s featuring at her sixth AWCON believes anyone can play for the National team irrespective of the age , As long as she can deliver.
“I believe this is senior team , it’s not age category, we have U17, U19 and U20 , if you are looking for young player, you can go and watch the U17 and U20 games”.
“I’m concerned, this is women national team, you can have a 40 year old playing as long as she fits into the team . So if you are looking for young players, you can go and watch the U19, U20 games, you will get them there”.
Ebi who is gunning for her fourth AWCON title having won the title in 2010, 2014, 2016 with the Super Falcons added that the team will avoid the mistakes that occurred in the opening game against South Africa when they lock horns with Cameroon in the semi-final on Tuesday.
“Our coaches has seen our mistakes from the past matches , especially against the South Africa and the two other games and we have worked towards that”.
“I believe the coaches know the coaches know the Cameroon game won’t be easy game, we have worked on our mistakes and I believe it won’t happen again Cameroon.”
Nigeria will look to book her place in the final of the 11th AWCON when they meet Cameroon in the semi-final on Tuesday.
