Ighalo fires AFCON warning after bagging 11th goal of the season for Al Shabab

Odion Ighalo was the hero for Al Shabab in their Saudi Arabia Professional League encounter with Al Ahli on Saturday night.

The Nigerian forward grabbed a goal to lead his side to a 4-3 victory over Al Ahli at the Prince Abdullah al-Faisal Stadium , (Jeddah).

Al Shabab went in front in the 16th minute when Ighalo’s shot was deflected off Mohammed Majrashi and went into the net.

It became 2-0 for Al Shabab two minutes later as Argentine midfielder Ever Banega got his name on the scoresheet.

The visitors however responded and managed to restored parity before the half time break. Haitham Asiri got a goal back in the 36th minute, before former Leeds United star Ezgjan Alioski is level the game with a 44th minute penalty.

Al Ahli completed the turn around as Abdulrahman Ghareeb gave them a shocking lead for the first time in the game when he scored on 55th minutes.

The lead lasted only for 15 minutes as  Hattan Bahebri grabbed the leveler for Al Shabab in the 71st minute, before Ighalo sealed the victory in the 73rd minute.

The Nigeria international who was in action for the entire duration of the encounter has now scored 11 goals in 15 league appearances for Al Shabab this season.

He’s expected to lead the attack for the Super Eagles at the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
