Ighalo not giving up hope of playing at AFCON

Odion Ighalo is not giving up hope of playing at the 2021 African Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles.

Ighalo is eager to represent Nigeria at the tournament which is just three days away, but his club Al-Shabab are doing everything humanly to stop him.


The 32-year-old is still battling with the club over his release and have shunned training for the past two days, in order to force the management to reconsider their position.

According to CKDmedia, Ighalo said ,  “I am not in a right frame of mind to train. I need to join my team mates in Cameroon to be part of AFCON.”

“I mean, this is the biggest tournament in Africa and I want to represent my country. This is the country that gave me the platform to play for the U20 far back. So, I cherish the Green, White, Green Jersey, it’s so precious to me”.

“I still believe I will be part of the AFCON”. He concluded.

Meanwhile, Ighalo won the golden boot award in the 2019 edition, but called it quit from international football, before former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr persuaded came out of retirement November last year.
