Ighalo struggles as United see off Brighton in the Carabao Cup

Odion Ighalo was on parade for Manchester United in their Carabao Cup win over their hosts, Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday.

 

Ighalo was handed his second start of the season for the Red Devils, but the former Nigerian international failed to hit the target once more for his boyhood club.

 

Although chances were few and far between in the first half, but Odion Ighalo was presented with a half-chance by Mata on 18 minutes however he hit the side netting from a tight angle.

 

The first goal came just before the break. Mata won a free-kick off of Dan Burn and then swung it into the box himself, finding McTominay who head the ball home.

 

Mata scored the second after he was pull through on goal by new signing Donny Van Der Beek.

 

Substitute, Paul Pogba scored the third, his free-kick took a big deflection off the wall before curling into the top corner just inside the near post.
