Ighalo’s strike not enough to save Shanghai Shenhua from defeat

Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo was on target for his Chinese Super League  Shanghai Shenhua in their 1 – 2 defeat to Beijing Guoan on Friday night.

Fresh from his nomination for the 2019 CAF/FIPRO XI, Ighalo was harmful to the visitors’ defense all through the night but his side’s inability to finish off their chances cost them dearly.

The visitors took the lead through former Villarreal forward Cédric Bakambu in the 3rd minutes of the game, courtesy of Piao Cheng’s assist.

Odion Ighalo was booked in the 32nd minutes before he finally equalized for Shenhua two minutes before an hour mark from the penalty spot.

Congolese forward Cedric Bakambu turned provider for Renato Augusto four minutes later to give the visitors all three points.

Following the defeat, Shanghai Shenhua remains 12th on the log with unimpressive 30 points from 28 games in the league this season.
