Iheanacho is running out of celebrations – Brendan Rodgers

Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho drew praise from manager Brendan Rodgers ahead of trip to Friday’s trip to Southampton.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed good form lately scoring his 10th premier league goal of the season in Monday’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace and also setting up Timothy Castagne for the other goal.

Rodgers only paired Iheanacho and first choice striker Jamie Vardy together eight times last season but injuries have forced him to opt for a strike pairing in the last 10 games.

Since starting along with Vardy, Iheanacho has now contributed 12 goals in the last nine games, including 14 in all competitions.

Rodgers, however, is convinced that playing with Jamie’s Vardy is one of the reasons behind the incredible form of the Nigerian striker.

“I would say so. The two together, their strengths complement each other. Both can threaten in behind. They have a synchronised way of playing. Jamie hasn’t scored the goals but his movement has created space and that’s helped Kels. My only worry with him is that he is running out of celebrations. Hopefully, he can keep scoring and keep celebrating.” he told the press conference.

“When he did play with Jamie, he showed they can play together. It was never about ability, it was about his resilience to keep going until he got that chance. We all love him here, he comes in with a smile. You see how courageous he is. He does a lot of finishing exercises. He wants to get better and the coaches are great with him.”

The former Celtic boss added that Iheanacho has all the qualities to be a top striker, but maintained that his plan to sign new forward in the summer remain unchanged.

“It remains the same. Either way we will want to strengthen. We have seen development in players. Each season you want to strengthen your squad. It’s a great bonus when you have someone playing to the level he has. We can’t just rely only on that. If we can strengthen the squad, that will be great.” he concluded.
