Former Super Eagles striker and the prince of Monaco, Victor Ikpeba has urged young Nigerian players to shun moves to the English Premier League at the begining of their professional football career.
Ikpeba told brila.net while speaking about Nigeria transfers and African players generally in Europe; He provided tips on how the young lads can succeed abroad with their footballing career, stating that the Epl, Serie A, and the la liga is a no no for every young lads starting his football career in Europe.
In his opinion, the Prince of Monaca said they can never learn the rudiments and the element of how to play the Europeans style if they begin that way.
”I really don’t like to see our young lads going to the English premier league, the Serie A, and also the La liga, I want them to start from the smaller/traditional leagues in Europe like the Portuguese league, the French league and the Dutch leagues.
”The Leagues I mentioned can give these players the platform to address their selves unlike what we see in England.
”For an African player, if you really want to progress you have to learn the European style of football and these other smaller leagues gives younger players the Platform to develop in football, ”
‘For instance, Wilfred Ndidi is doing well now at the Epl, why? He started his career in Europe from the Belgian league and now he’s doing well in the Epl with Leicester city. May be, Real Madrid or one bigger club side might be on his radar to sign him,”
