Injury forced Ghana to make changes to their squad to face Super Eagles

The Ghananian Football Association has revealed the reason some players were left out of the Black Stars squad to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Friday.

The FA was forced to replace six players who pulled out of the match, due to different injuries.

Ghana made their squad for the FIFA World Cup qualification clash public on Tuesday and Majeed Ashimeru, Antoine Semenyo, Baba Abdul Rahman, Samuel Owusu, Richmond Boakye Yiadom, and Kamaldeen Sulemana are the players that were left out.

“Majeed Ashimeru, Antoine Semenyo, Baba Abdul Rahman, Samuel Owusu, Richmond Boakye Yiadom and Kamaldeen Sulemana were all handed call ups to the senior national team and were expected to report to camp on March 20, 2022, but failed to join the rest of the squad due to injuries at the respective club sides,” GFA wrote on their website.

“Team Doctors of the respective clubs of the players wrote and officially inform the GFA of their injury situations and confirmed their unavailability for the double-header against Nigeria.”

“The GFA will continue to communicate with team doctors of the respective clubs and monitor the recovery of the players.”

“It’s the hope of the association that injured players will recover quickly and join the senior national team for future assignments.” The Ghana Football Association said.

The Black Stars will host the Super Eagles at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi for the first leg on Friday, before traveling to Abuja for thee second leg on Tuesday.

The overall winners of the games will qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
