Inter Milan UCL Semi-final Qualification: Andre Onana’s Crazy Two Years

Inter Milan have qualified for the UEFA Champions League semi-final for the first time since they last won the competition in 2010 under Portuguese manager, Jose Mourinho, and it could not have been without the efforts of Cameroon goalkeeper, Andre Onana.

Just over two years ago, Andre Onana was banned from playing football in his final year at Ajax, where he had become a success and was touted for a big move away from the Netherlands, but FIFA’s hammer fell hard on him after testing positive for a banned substance. He would be banned for 9 months.

Having secured a move to Inter Milan despite being linked with Chelsea just before his suspension.

A year after his suspension got lifted, he would go on to represent his country at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where skirmishes with head coach Rigobert Song, led to his suspension.

Andre Onana decided to retire from national team duties and it has been rumoured that he could make a U-turn, but the fact that, in all of these, he has been able to maintain shape and good form with all of the noise around him is nothing short of commendable.

He helped Inter to the Scudetto last season, this season might not have gone well for them in the Serie A, but they have just secured themselves a place in the semi-final of the biggest sporting event in Europe.

They will face their eternal rivals, AC Milan for the first time in the competition since 2004/2005.

On that occasion, AC Milan emerged victorious in the quarter-final, winning 5-0 on aggregate.

Andre Onana would be looking to get Inter to the final, giving them a chance of winning the laurel again for the first time in 13 years.
