It makes no sense trying to convince Dessers to stay — Genk boss Vrancken

Genk Manager Wouter Vrancken is unhappy with the current rumors surrounding the future of star striker Cyriel Dessers, adding that it is not good for anyone.

With Onuachu missing due to injury, and Theo Bongonda and Junya Ito left the Club, Dessers remain the only senior attacker at the club, he’s also been linked with an exit from the club.

In fact, Dessers missed a number of training sessions earlier this week, and it is unclear if it has to do with the expected possible transfer to Cremonese.

“Cyriel is also part of the competition core. You don’t notice the transfer rumors around his person during training,” says trainer Wouter Vrancken to Het Laatste Nieuws.

“He continues to show willingness there. He is also very involved in the development of the squad. Just like Jhon Lucumi by the way”, who is mentioned at Bologna.

Dessers started the campaign like house on fire, hitting three goals and two assists in the opening two games in the Belgian Jupiler League.

Vrancken however believes it makes no sense to try to convince the Nigerian striker to stay at the Club.

“That makes no sense. Cyriel knows perfectly where he stands with me and a player ultimately makes his own choices.” He said.

Dessers is expected to lead the attack against KSA Eupen this weekend.
