Iwobi fails to shine as Everton suffer home defeat vs Westham

Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi was in action for Everton in their Premier League game against West Ham at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Iwobi, who missed the last international break due to injury, was included in the starting XI by coach Rafael Benitez.

Alex Iwobi also missed the trip to Old Trafford last time out, and this time he replaced Anthony Gordon, he failed to make most of the opportunity.

The former Arsenal missed a golden chance to Toffees from six yards, after in form winger Damarai Gray set him up with a cross on the 15th minute.

Abdoulaye Doucoure also rifled a shot from the edge of the box over, without ever troubling Lukasz Fabianski.

In the second half, Iwobi very nearly atoned for his miss when he looked to turn provider for Gray down the left but Cresswell made a vital late intervention.

The Toffees were made to pay for their misses as Nigerian-Italian born defender Angelo Ogbonna headed the visitors in front from set play on the 74th minute.

It was Ogbonna’s first goal of the season, and it was enough to hand the Toffees their first home defeat of the season after three consecutive victories.

However, Iwobi left the field in the 79th minute as Anthony Gordon came on to replace him.

The victory lifts West Ham to sixth on the Premier League table as they leapfrog Everton, who dropped to seventh.
