Daily Mail Columnist Mike Keegan believes Everton is parading overpriced and overpaid players, including Alex Iwobi.
The writer in his latest piece for the Daily Mail discussed some of the problems facing the Toffees this season and singled out the Nigerian as one of the mistakes of the owners.
Keegan claimed the wages of some individuals at Goodison Park is too excessive and don’t match their input to the team.
“Sound bizarre? It gets better,” he wrote. “At the time, the £28m paid to Arsenal for Alex Iwobi seemed about £20m too much.
“Insiders say the former Gunner’s weekly salary would make you weep. In fairness to Iwobi, who may well play a key role in keeping the Toffees up, he is far from the only one that applies.”
Iwobi played a key role as the Frank Lampard’s side beat relegation with a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday, but his future at the club is still uncertain.
Insiders believe players on huge wages could be let go— with Everton planning to rebuild the team after the disastrous campaign.
