Assistant coach of Nigeria’s failed U20 WAFU team Jolomi Atune has expressed fresh regrets over the inability of the Nigeria U20 national team to qualify for the Africa U20 cup of nations in Mauritania after the draws for the Youth AFCON was conducted in Yaounde Cameroon venue of the ongoing CHAN.
Jolomi speaking in a chat with www.brila.net queried the format of the U20 qualifiers which he believe is designed to knockout the best teams as potential champions of the U20 AFCON even gets knocked out for the qualifiers.
He however advised players of the team to continue to work hard as they now have to plot their way to the top respectively after failing to nail down what would have offered them a platform of expression through the U20 AFCON.
“I feel really bad it really pains me that after what we put in, hard luck made us not to qualify. Majority of the top teams are from West Africa look at Ghana, Nigeria and CIV these are potential champions in one group. I will just say let the players keep on doing their best, those that cannot make it now can make the Super Eagles, can make it to the U23.”
