Kamaru Usman beats Colby Covington to retain UFC welterweight title

Kamaru Usman defeated American fighter Colby Covington at the Madison Square Garden on Sunday to retain his UFC his welterweight championship.

The Nigerian nightmare secured the victory via unanimous decision (48-47, 48-7, 49-46), despite dropping Covington twice.

Usman had the fans on their feet in the second when he knocked down Covington twice in the second round, but American climbed off the canvas and survived to see the third.

Covington came back with more intensity in remaining rounds, but Kamaru held on to retain his title and score second victory over his rival.

“There was a lot of bad blood and I’m sure there will be some still but he is a tough son of a b****. When you share an octagon with someone tough you gain that respect.”
