Kanu backs Finidi George despite early exit from Champions League

Enyimba Chairman, Nwankwo Kanu has expressed his support for the team following their recent disappointment in the CAF Champions League.

Enyimba on Sunday crashed of this season’s CAF Champions League in the Group phase after 4-3 aggregate defeat to Al Ahly Benghazi of Libya.

Enyimba lost the first leg 4-0 in Benghazi and played 0-0 draw at home on Sunday to bid the African elite club tournament goodbye.

Kanu, believes that Enyimba was unfortunate in their encounter with the North African team.

The former Arsenal and Ajax star however remains optimistic that the team will bounce back from this setback and show their resilience in future competitions.

“It is very disappointing, but we have to go home with the positives,” Kanu said.

“We did create chances, it’s not like they (Al-Ahly Benghazi) did better than us, they had only one shot at goal.”

“When you lose a game, of course it is a bad one, but I wouldn’t say it’s a bad start, we want to be in the group stage of the CAF Champions League and do what we have to do.

“If we didn’t play well and we lost, that’s another problem. That’s the point I’ll say that it’s a bad start.”

Kanu assumed the role of chairman in May, after replacing Felix Anyasi-Agwu who in charge over two decades.
