Karim Benzema has revealed that he gave his 4-year-old daughter his signed match ball after promising her that he would score a hat-trick the day before netting one against Athletic Bilbao.

The 31-year-old scored all of Real Madrid’s goals in their 3-0 win over Bilbao at the Bernabeu to take them to within four points of rivals Atletico Madrid on Sunday afternoon.

Following the game, Benzema asked all of his team-mates to sign the ball to mark the special occasion. “They wrote messages of congratulations for the match,” Benzema said.

He has now scored in five consecutive Primera games, his best run since February 2016.

Benzema praised his teammate for the achievement “I need my teammates just like they need me. It was a difficult season for everyone, we always want titles, we play for Real Madrid and we must always win. There are 5 matches left and we must win them all…”
